Fifth class has been busy learning about the wonderful poetry of Seamus Heaney. We attended a workshop about the poet and we studied one of his famous poems called 'Postscript'. It is about a happy moment by the sea where he took the time to enjoy the view. His poetry inspired us to write our own poems about Kilkenny. We hope you enjoy reading some of them. Take the time to visit Kilkenny!

Lively Kilkenny

And some time take the time to visit Kilkenny,

Winter to summer, as vibrant as each other.

In a town that is never quiet, there's always a

laugh or a chat or a cry or a scream.

Where the castle lies beautiful, red roses as pure as white snowdrops,

In the park where the hurlers swing and the birds sing.

So come visit historical, happy Kilkenny,

Where we will greet you happily.

Kilkenny's Five Wonders

Where the castle has a breeze,

The beauty of the river stream.

The park where all the children sing

And many other flowers bling.

The vibrant city, very clean,

Take your time to come here,

To see the hurler's swing and swing,

To have the beauty fill your wing.

Language flowing through the air,

The clear blue sky, very near,

The glistening sun very bright

The big bold signs, catch your eyes.

Listen to the wind blow through the leaves of sycamore trees,

The cats and rabbits as playing they go,

The dogs and cats running away.

Something about Kikenny

And sometime make the time to visit Kilkenny,

Come to the Castle Park during New Years,

To see the colourful fireworks spark,

Whilst the hyper hurlers play in Nowlan Park.

Smell the scent of the freshly cut grass,

That's something that you wouldn't want to pass.

Sometimes it's really a pain, when the rain won't go away,

You can ride around on your bike or go for a high hike.
